How Bali Boutique Hotels Let Guests Get in Touch: A Check of 80 Websites

A blossoming bonsai tree on a grassy point above a still lake at dawn

I checked the websites of 80 boutique and design-led hotels and villas in Bali on 9 October 2026. Just over half had a WhatsApp link a guest could tap. Among the 68 independent properties, 39 had one, or 57%. Very few ran a live chat tool. Below are the counts and the limits of the method.

Why check hotel websites?

A guest who lands on your own site is already interested. What happens next depends on how easy you make it to ask a question. I wanted a plain count of how Bali boutique properties handle that moment, so I made one.

Where did the sample come from?

The properties came from three public lists of Bali boutique hotels:

For each property I looked for its own official website. I skipped 30 where my search couldn't confirm one. Some of those are well-known resorts, so the skip says more about my search than about them. That left 80 sites. Twelve belong to hotel groups such as Hyatt, IHG and Four Seasons. The other 68 are independent.

How did I check each site?

A script fetched each homepage and, where it found one, the contact page. It read the raw page code and looked for four things:

  • WhatsApp links, such as wa.me and api.whatsapp.com
  • Known live chat widgets
  • A phone number
  • An email address

It also noted where each WhatsApp link sat. That could be a floating button, the header, the footer, the body of the page or the contact page.

A second, simpler script then fetched every site again and looked only for WhatsApp links. It agreed with the first pass on 76 of the 80 sites (95%).

What did the sites offer?

What I looked forFoundNot foundCouldn't check

WhatsApp link, 12 group hotels318
Live chat widget, all 80 sites105911

Eight of the 12 group hotel sites blocked the automated check. So I can't say anything useful about the big brands. The independent numbers are the solid part of this study.

The ten chat widgets were spread thin. Two sites used tawk.to, two used HiJiffy and two used a WhatsApp button tool. Zendesk, Intercom, Facebook Messenger and Zoho SalesIQ showed up once each.

Sites with a WhatsApp link

  • 42 of 80 sites
  • 39 of 68 independents

Sites without one

  • 27 of 80 sites
  • 23 with no live chat either

Of the 42 sites with a link, 25 had one on the contact page and 21 had one in the footer. Nineteen used a floating button, and 15 put a link in the body of a page. Only 3 put it in the header. Many sites used more than one spot, so these numbers add up to more than 42.

23 of the 80 sites offered neither WhatsApp nor live chat.

What are the limits of this check?

Read the numbers with these limits in mind:

  • It's a sample, not a count of every hotel in Bali. The three lists favour design-led properties.
  • The script read raw page code. A widget that loads later through a script may not show, so some "not found" results could be wrong.
  • Eleven sites couldn't be checked. Eight group hotel sites blocked the request, and three built their pages in a way the script couldn't read.
  • A link on a page doesn't prove anyone answers it. I didn't send any messages.
  • Websites change. These counts are for 9 October 2026.

What should a Bali property do with this?

Here's what I'd do this week:

  1. Open your own site on a phone and try to send yourself a message. Count the taps.
  2. If you show a WhatsApp link, check that it opens a chat with the right number and that someone owns the replies.
  3. Decide who answers a message that arrives at 11 p.m. I think a link nobody answers until morning can feel worse to a guest than no link at all.

If you want help with that last step, BonsAI Luxury sets up a WhatsApp guest agent that answers routine questions from the property's own facts and hands the rest to staff. See AI guest messaging for hotels. For the wider picture, see Bali boutique resort marketing.

Can I use the data?

Yes. The full list of 80 sites, with what the script found on each, is in a CSV file. You're welcome to use it with a link back to this page. If you spot a result that's wrong for your property, tell me through the contact form and I'll recheck it.
