Canary Technologies Alternatives for Small Hotels (2026): 6 Options Compared

If your small hotel wants the AI looked after for you, BonsAI Luxury is my pick, because it builds the AI receptionist and keeps its answers current. If you want a published price and will run the software yourself, look at HelloShift or HiJiffy.

I'm Iskander Nekkaz - Le Roux, the founder of BonsAI Luxury, an automation engineer and a Stanford alum.

Canary Technologies is one of the biggest names in hotel guest software. It says more than 20,000 hotels in over 125 countries use it. A 15-room hotel often wants something smaller, a price it can see before a sales call, or someone else to keep the answers up to date. This page compares six alternatives for that hotel.

What does Canary do well?

Canary's pricing page lists three plans. Core has a unified inbox across SMS, WhatsApp, LINE and WeChat, plus mobile check-in. Advanced adds AI message replies and translation in more than 100 languages. Pro adds an AI website chat that answers around the clock. Every plan comes with Canary's support, and it lists a dedicated onboarding and training lead. Its AI Voice page says it handles every call to the hotel, trained for your property and brand.

Where does a small hotel feel the gap?

Canary's prices are custom quotes, so you can't compare cost before a sales call. AI replies start on Advanced, and the AI website chat is on Pro. The pages I read describe software your team runs, with Canary's help at setup. Picture a 15-room hotel with two people on the desk. Nobody there has a spare hour a day to keep AI answers current.

1. BonsAI Luxury

Best for: a small hotel with nobody free to run guest software.

BonsAI Luxury is a done-for-you service, not software your team runs. It builds an AI receptionist around one property's own facts and voice, on WhatsApp, website chat and email. Its phone agent answers from the same approved facts and takes a message for staff on anything else. After launch, BonsAI reads the conversations and fixes weak answers. Builds start from USD 1,500, after a free audit.

The catch. It's a new company with no published client results yet. It runs in English and French only. It doesn't check live room availability or take bookings on a call yet. It passes those requests to staff. It doesn't pull OTA messages into one inbox, and it doesn't do check-in or mobile keys.

2. Conduit

Best for: a hotel that wants AI agents for messages and calls, with an option to hand the work to the vendor's team.

Conduit's pricing page starts at $18 per unit a month for Messaging, which includes Voice AI for inbound and outbound calls and PMS and OTA links. Its Overwatch plan is custom priced, and Conduit's own 24/7 team runs guest messages, with phone calls included. Its agents page says the agents can check bookings and change reservations through supported links.

The catch. Pricing is per unit, and the page says pricing scales beyond 50 listings. Overwatch has no published price. The customer quotes on its pricing page come from rental managers, not small hotels.

3. Quinta (formerly Quicktext)

Best for: a hotel that wants a person at the vendor keeping its answers current.

Quinta's AI assistant, Velma, answers in 38 languages on live chat, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram and WeChat. Its pricing page lists a data service from $599 a month, with a dedicated consultant assigned to the hotel.

The catch. I didn't find phone answering on the pages I read. The data service is a bigger monthly bill than the cheapest plans here.

4. HelloShift

Best for: a hotel that wants a published price and AI phone answering in the same app as housekeeping.

HelloShift publishes its prices per room. Every plan bills at least 40 rooms, so the smallest bill is $50 a month billed annually. Guest messaging and website chat start on the Guest plan. AI Voice comes with Guest+, from $100 a month billed annually, and with Pro. HelloShift says the AI voice checks live room availability in your PMS, books rooms on the call and texts the caller a secure card link. There are no setup fees, and every plan has a 14-day free trial.

The catch. Your team still runs it day to day. The 40-room minimum means a 12-room hotel pays for 40.

5. HiJiffy

Best for: a hotel that wants a published monthly price for messaging and will run the tool itself.

HiJiffy publishes its prices. Plans start at €99 a month, based on the number of rooms, plus a €99 setup fee for each five properties. The Pro plan, from €159 a month, adds a generative AI chatbot in 132 languages and an account manager. Email starts on Pro. WhatsApp and SMS come with Premium, from €319 a month.

The catch. I didn't find AI phone answering described on the pages I read. On those pages, your team sets the answers.

6. Akia

Best for: a hotel that wants the AI to answer the phone and take payment on the call.

Akia says its AI answers up to 90% of guest texts and messages, with SMS, WhatsApp, email, Instagram, Messenger and OTA messages in one inbox. Its top plan, Max, adds AI Voice with call transfers, call summaries and dedicated support. Its voice page says the AI books rooms and takes payment during the call.

The catch. Akia doesn't publish prices. Every plan says to talk to sales.

Who should stay with Canary?

Stay with Canary if you want mobile check-in, messaging, AI phone answering and website chat from one large vendor. It also covers LINE and WeChat in its inbox, which matters if many of your guests use them. If your team already works the Canary inbox every day, the gap is usually the answers, not the tool.

Switching tools won't help if nobody keeps the new one up to date.

What should you ask before you switch?

  1. Who writes and updates the answers after launch?
  2. Does it answer the phone, and can it finish a booking on the call?
  3. Which booking system does it read, and can it see live availability?
  4. What does it cost for your room count, in writing?
  5. What happens to a guest question the AI can't answer at 11 p.m.?
